Every now and then, life gives us experiences that leave a lasting impact. Recently, I had the privilege of assisting Sea Turtle Inc. on South Padre Island with the rescue and release of cold-stunned sea turtles—an unforgettable day that will stay with me forever.
During the winter months, when temperatures drop dramatically, sea turtles in our area face a serious threat. These cold-blooded creatures become sluggish and unable to swim when the water gets too cold, leaving them vulnerable to predators, boat strikes, and even drowning. Thankfully, Sea Turtle Inc. works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and release these turtles back into the wild once they recover.
This year, they’ve expanded their hospital, allowing them to care for even more turtles in need. With state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated staff, they continue to make a huge impact on marine conservation along our coastline.
Being part of this effort was nothing short of amazing. From carefully handling the turtles to watching them regain their strength and swim back into the Gulf, every moment was a reminder of the incredible wildlife we share this beautiful coastline with—and how important it is to protect them.
If you ever get the chance to volunteer or support Sea Turtle Inc., I highly recommend it. It’s a rewarding experience and a great way to give back to the island’s ecosystem. This day was truly one for the books!
